World Spay Day falls on the last Tuesday in February. This event highlights spay and neuter programs implemented by animal shelters and rescue organizations so to increase community awareness and support. Initially called Spay Day USA by its creator, Doris Day Animal League, World Spay Day is now recognized by almost 70 countries. Already in its 24th year, this event highlights on affordable and cheap neuter techniques to save animal lives. During this day, people are encouraged to use the hashtag #worldspayday in social media, and hold spays or neuter events in their locality. Local veterinarians also offer discounted spaying and neutering at their clinics, or provide seminars on the importance of neutering and spaying. World
Spaying Day is now part of the Human Society International and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. Oftentimes, governments employ cruel means such as shooting and putting animals to sleep in solving the increasing number of homeless animals in the community. Neutering or spaying reduces the number of litters stray animals produce.
